What is Glutathione and what's in the vial?

Each 10 mL vial contains 600 mg of reduced glutathione (GSH; CAS 70-18-8) as a white lyophilized powder. It is an endogenous tripeptide of glutamate, cysteine, and glycine, joined through an unusual γ-peptide bond. Full molecular data is in the Product Details tab.

Is glutathione a peptide?

Yes, though not a ribosomal one. It is a tripeptide assembled by two dedicated enzymes, which is how the γ-linkage between glutamate and cysteine is formed. That bond resists ordinary peptidases, so breaking it takes dedicated enzymes: γ-glutamyl transpeptidase works on the extracellular pool, and the ChaC cyclotransferases handle turnover inside the cell. How pure is Glutathione?

Why does glutathione need protection from light and air?

The reactive group is the cysteine sulfhydryl, and it oxidizes to the disulfide GSSG on exposure to air, light, or trace metals. Keep vials sealed and protected from light, and prepare working solutions fresh so the reduced-to-oxidized ratio in your assay is what you think it is.
